Tour of Edgar Experimental Mine (Colo School of Mines), Idaho Springs

A tour of the experimental mine used by students from the Colorado School of Mines for research and training in mining techniques and systems. Over a half-mile of workings underground representing 100 years of mine development are covered on the tour.

This underground tour will show lighted displays of drilling, blasting, and mucking operations.  There will be a discussion of mining practice, mining economics, and the role of the mining industry in modern society.  The temperature in the mine is around 55 degrees F, so please dress accordingly.  Participants must wear closed toed shoes.  PPE will be provided.

Colorado School of Mines usually charges for this tour, but they are providing it to us for free. However, please bring at least $5.00 cash so we can give our tour guide, a student at Mines, an appropriate gratuity.

Please carpool if you can.  When arriving, please drive though the main gate up the hill for 1/4 of a mile to the main mine office.  Mine personnel will meet us there.
