Birding Along Florida River

This site near Bondad in southern Colorado, just off of Hwy 550, offers riparian, sagebrush, pinyon juniper, meadow, and several conifer habitats, and is a birding hotspot. We will look for migrating birds, some of which will stay for the summer, others will continue north for breeding territories. Meet at 9 am.18 year olds and up. No dogs please. Leisurely pace. Trip will be about two miles on level dirt trails. Dress for the weather and bring binocular, snacks, and water. Sunscreen and bug juice always a good idea. For added enjoyment, download the free App called Merlin onto your phone. Register no later than Wednesday, May 7. This is a joint trip with San Juan Mountain Association.
Directions from Durango: from the intersection of 550 and 160, head south on 550. In about 12 miles, turn left onto County Road 310-318, where you see the green Nature Center sign. Make an immediate left onto "River's End Lane,” then take the second dirt road on the right, which leads to a blue gate. Enter there and proceed to the parking area next to a small cabin. Travel time from Durango is about 20 minutes.
Directions from From Aztec/Farmington/Bloomfield: From intersection of US Highway 550 and Main Street in Aztec drive north for almost 20 miles to a turnoff on the right (shortly after passing a firehouse on right) to County Road 310/318, then make an immediate left onto “River’s End Lane.” Then take the second dirt road on the right, which leads to a blue gate, Enter there and proceed to the parking area next to a small cabin. Travel time from Aztec about half an hour.
