Stewardship - Remove Shingles from Pikes Peak A-Frame on Barr Trail

A-Frame renovation debris removal. This event is a Challenging downhill hike on Pikes Peak of 15 miles and 7,400' descent along the Barr Trail. Starting at the summit of Pikes Peak, hiking to the A-Frame, then loading and carrying old shingles and wood from the A-Frame on Pikes Peak to the Mountain View Cog station, before continuing down Barr Trail to the trailhead.
Meeting Plan. We will meet at the Safeway at 3275 W. Colorado Ave, Colorado Springs, CO at 5:15am to form carpools and leave at 5:30am for the top of Pikes Peak via the Pikes Peak Highway. Hiking Plan. From the Pikes Peak Summit (14,115'), we will hike down Barr Trail, 3.4 miles to the A-Frame at 11,500'. There we will load packs with old shingles, and discarded lumber, take what you carry, do not try to over do it. Trash bags will be furnished. Then hike 4.1 miles down Barr Trail (past Barr Camp at 10,157') to the COG Mountain View siding (9,,692'). We will offload shingles there. Then hike 7.5 miles back to Barr TH (6,709' ). We will be picked up and returned to our cars at Safeway. Total hiking for the day 15 miles basically downhill with 7,400' descent.
What to Bring. Large backpack, rain jacket, clothing for the weather, lunch, snacks and water. There is water at the A-Frame and Barr Camp that will need to be purified (bring a filter/steripen)
