The PPG strives to provide educational and social opportunities for its members by inviting guest speakers to share their outdoor experiences on a variety of topics. These monthly programs involve a presentation and then a Q&A.
Albert Ellingwood was a legendary mountaineer and rock climber who lived in Colorado in the early 20th century. He is famous for his numerous first ascents in the Rockies, including several in the rugged terrain of the Colorado Rockies. Ellingwood was a visionary climber who pushed the limits of what was thought possible at the time and inspired many modern climbers in Colorado to follow in his footsteps. Today, his routes are still sought after by climbers looking for a challenge, and his legacy continues to inspire generations of climbers to explore the beautiful and rugged mountains of Colorado.
Art Porter is a past-Chair of CMC Pikes Peak, and a former State President of CMC. He also held roles as an instructor in CMC's climbing school, ski school and the winter mountaineering school. He has been leading trips for CMC over a 40-year period.
Doors open at 6:00pm, and the talk begins at 6:30. There will be time for Q&A at the end, and an opportunity to grab a pint nearby after the talk.
Parking is free on site at Cottonwood, in the lot across from the main entrance, or along the adjacent side streets. The program will take place in the theater, which is up the stairs that are right off the entrance, and to the right once you are on the second floor.
