Field trip: Basic Ice Climbing
PPG BMS - Basic Ice Climbing Field Day – Elevenmile Canyon
Students will learn and practice ice climbing techniques on an ice climbing wall.

We will meet at Camp Alexander (near Lake George) ready to go at 8am. We will climb till noon.
Ice climbing movements and proper climbing techniques for swinging ice tools and kicking in crampons will be demonstrated. Students will practice techniques.

Required Equipment
Required Equipment: Eye protection, climbing helmet, harness, two locking carabiners (one must be a large HMS style), belay device, rappel back-up loop (10-14 inch tied loop of 5-6 mm nylon cord (made from a 4-ft. length of cord), or small Hollow-block loop), double length runner or PAS, winter alpine-style boots, steel alpine or ice crampons, and ice tools (the club has some crampons and ice tools, so check with instructor on availability).
