PPG BMS - Advanced Snow Climbing Field Day #2 – Pikes Peak - Glen Cove

Students will practice skills learned during class on a couloir climb.

Same meeting plan as Field day one.  Meet at Pikes Peak Highway toll road entrance at 9am.

Line up before gate opens; carpool is highly recommended and appreciated by the Park.

Carpool to Glenn Cove; gear up; safety checks; hike to the snow climb area.

We should be done with the climb between 1-2 pm.

**Alternate climb dates will be the following weekend.

Basic Alpine Climbing
Application of Advance Snow Climbing techniques.**
Climbing Little Italy or Chimney snow climb routes; adjusting to winter weather conditions; rate of movement and snow conditions will impact how far the group travels for the day.  
Focus of effort is applying the class techniques; summiting the couloir is desired but not the main effort of the day.

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT

Climbing helmet, winter alpine-style boots, alpine crampons, ice axe, avalanche beacon, probe, shovel, snowshoes, ski poles, ten essentials (Wind & sun protection) and appropriate layered clothing for winter travel.  

Lunch; snacks; warm liquid option recommended; easy to eat food.
