This day is intended for Technical Climbing School instructors, who teach in ACS or the rock climbing courses.

  • 7:45 Senior/Lead Instructors meet at parking lot for planning
  • 8:00 Meet at parking lot, introductions, distribute gear, hike to top of the crag.

Schedule

This day will serve as a refresher for new and returning TCS Rock Instructors. /Senior instructors will be available for mentoring and coaching. Although there is a planned itineraty below, the day will be very flexible so that you can work on specific skills. It is intended to be a fun and fulfilling day of learning, climbing and connecting with your fellow instructors. 

  • 7:45 Senior/Lead Instructors meet at parking lot for planning
  • 8:00 Meet at parking lot, introductions, distribute gear, hike to top of the crag.
  • 8:30-10 Anchors and Top Rope Management
    • 10-11:30 Rappel Fundamentals 
      • 11:30-12 Break- Lunch/Questions and discussion
        • 12-2:30 Basic Rock Rescue
        • 2:30-3:00 Hike out and debrief

      Basic Rock Gear Kit (each participant should carry)

      • Guide Style ATC with dedicated HMS/Pear Shaped Carabiner
      • Safety Leash with Dedicated Small Locking Carabiner (double length runner or dedicated PAS - Personal Anchor System)
      • Small Locking Carabiner x3
      • Autoblock 
      • Harness
      • Helmet
      • Shoes
      • Belay/Rappel gloves (optional but recommended for safety)
      • Chalk (optional)
      • Non-locking carabiners (optional to secure items to harness such as gloves) 

      Rescue Kit (each participant should carry)

      • HMS/Pear Shaped Carabiner
      • Small Knife (optional but recommended when in the alpine)
      • Harness Prusik (the loop should be the distance between your belly button to your eyebrows)
      • Foot Prusik (the loop should be the distance from your foot to your belly button)

      Group Gear

      • Rope
      • Anchors
      • Bolted
        • Quad Anchor (for bolted anchors)
          • 20 feet of 7mm Cordelette
          • 2 Small Locking Carabiners
          • 2 HMS/Pear Shaped Carabiners
      • Natural Anchors - Top Rope
        • Static Line for setting up top rope anchors and securing to the top of the cliff
        • 2 HMS/Pear Shaped Carabiners
      • Natural Rap Anchors - Rappelling in the Alpine
        • Webbing or Cordelette
        • Rap Rings
