TCS Anchors & Trad Climbing - CMC Denver - 2025

Climbing Course

TCS Anchors & Trad Climbing

This course combines instruction on both advanced anchors and the basics of traditional lead climbing. It teaches participants the various types of rock protection, including passive protection (nuts, hexes) and active protection (cams); and how to place and incorporate the pieces of protection into anchors. Course will consist of 3 lectures and 3 field days.

  • Learn how to climb a trad route by hand-placing protection from the ground up
  • Learn how to build a secure belay station and bring up the follower
  • Review and expand on Fixed and Natural Anchors covered in Basic Anchors, and take a close look at using Gear Placements as part of an anchoring system
  • Focus on how to build a top rope anchor with gear and we will add comments on how to make the anchor sufficient to belay a multi-pitch climbing party
