LOCATION

UCHealth Community Education Center is located at 2050 Kidskare Point in Colorado Springs, Colorado 80910.

TIME: 

8AM - 5PM  (WITH 1-HOUR LUNCH BREAK)

Course Materials: 

  • Hardcopies will be available for use during the course. (You can also bring a laptop or ipad to view the field guide on your own)  
  • Purchase your own hard copy at Backcountry Pulse – LINK HERE – password: rescueready!  
  • The field guide will be used as a primary curriculum resource and relevant information will be projected on a screen by the instructors.   

 Testing:   

  • Get a head start in your learning by taking this PRE-COURSE Exam. Feel free to look through the online field guide as you go!   

 

  • On the evening of your last day, you will get an email with the link to the Post Course WFA Exam that you will complete in CoAssemble (check your spam). It must be completed with a 70% or higher score.  

 Certification:  

  • Once you've graduated, you will receive a .pdf copy of your certification via email and your CMC profile will be updated with a WFA badge.  
  • Your certification is valid for 2-years with no grace period and can be recertified by taking another Wilderness First Aid class within that time period.   

All courses are globally recognized and have reciprocity among other wilderness medicine education companies.

All CMC Wilderness Medicine classes offered through Backcountry Pulse are taught to the current internationally accepted wilderness medicine guidelines and are continually updated to reflect the latest evidence-based practices.

Field Guide

  • The online version of the BCP Field Guide can be found on the Course Materials tab or at: https://www.ourboox.com/bp/1632178/
  • Each course will have a set of hard copies for students to use during the course.
  • You can purchase your own hard copy of the Field Guide before, during or after your course through Backcountry Pulse – LINK HERE – password: rescueready!  

Packing List

    • Notebook and pen
    • Clothing that allows you to be comfortable in a variety of weather conditions
    • Water, snacks & lunch (or money to buy lunch)
    • Day pack packed with the basic gear and first aid kit you primarily recreate with (This could be trail running, climbing gear, ski equipment, etc. We may have the opportunity to practice improvising with the equipment you already own)
    • Closed-toe shoes (i.e. hiking boots or trail runners)
    • Watch (or cell phone with timer)
    • Optional: Computer or iPad to view the online Field Guide and to take the Post Course Test on Sunday afternoon
    • Optional: Camp chair for comfort and/or Sleeping pad (so you don't have to lay directly on grass for the scenarios)
