Trip Report

Hiking – Captain Mountain Trail

The area was still green and lush. We had a good day and achieved our goal. This is a trying trail because of the l-o-n-g uphill on the way back.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • The middle part of the trail between the first major creek, Ethel Creek, and the Mountain is rarely used so the grasses were very high -- suggest gaiters to avoid burrs in boots.

To scramble up  the mountain, must go around the mountain to a large and lush meadow on its south side in order to gain scrambling access. Easiest access is on the east side. The north and west side have a deep gully and treefall between the trail and the start of the scramble.

The drainage is still green and lush, with grasses tall and plenty of flowers.  The middle part of the trail is rarely used so the Ethel and Melvina creeks were still running fairly high.
