Whale Peak
Whale Peak (13,078') is an easy 13er on the continental divide near Jefferson, Colorado. This peak offers great views and wildflowers.
Whale Peak via Gibson Lake Trail: 8 miles, 2,700 ft elevation gain
Carpool to the Hall Valley Campground, then hike about a mile on the dirt road to the Gibson Lake Trailhead. Follow the Gibson Lake Trail for about 2.5 miles to Gibson Lake. After this point, it will be off-trail- it will be steep, but no scrambling is involved. Leave the trail and head towards the south end of the lake to pick a way to the saddle to the southeast of Whale Peak. After gaining the ridge, proceed to the west to the summit of Whale Peak.
