Walton Peak
A winter cross country ski trail with trailhead parking on Rabbit Ears Pass in the Steamboat Springs Area.
This trailhead gains access to two summits: North Walton peak which is topped by a radio communication tower and access road, and the higher Walton peak to the south. These are mellow mountains with generally low avalanche danger.
The trail is mostly used to do downhill laps on North Walton peak with the tracks generally ending here. Skin the mellow cross country trail with about 600 ft of gain and distance of 1.75 miles. Keep heading south toward up the ridge and at about 1.2 miles, start enjoying the lines you can take on the east slope, or the trees on the north. The south and west slopes will also reward you with some easy mellow lines. Enjoy the skin in, because you'll get to enjoy the skin out also. It is just not very steep.
