Section 16 Trailhead
The Section 16 Trailhead is located on Gold Camp road and provides access to several connector trails that allow for multiple hiking or biking routes. There is no fee to park at the Section 16 trailhead.
Getting There: From US-24 (Cimmaron) westbound, turn left (south) on 26th street. After driving through two switchbacks turn right to Gold Camp Road and the trailhead parking lot will be on the right side after about 0.9 miles.
Section 16 Trailhead - Palmer Loop - 5.7 miles (RT), 1,292 feet elevation gain
Traveling counterclockwise, the trail starts with great views of Garden of the Gods and Red Rocks Canyon to the north. In about 1/2 mile the trail starts climbing through the pine forest. After passing a series of switchbacks you reach the top and can take a small detour to an overlook that offers great views to the north and south. As you continue on the trail you slowly make a U turn, crossing Hunter Run creek. Eventually descending down to the High Drive dirt road and back to the trailhead.
