San Rafael River Gorge, San Rafael Swell, Utah
This beautiful area, also known as the "Little Grand Canyon" is in the north San Rafael Swell Recreation Management Area in Utah. It provides access to the Sid's Mountain Wilderness area and the San Rafael River for hiking, backpacking and boating, and connects to other trails in the area.

Although this trip can be done in any season, this area is very hot in summer and could be icy in winter. Please research and plan accordingly.
The San Rafael River should only be floated in small crafts above 200 CFS and large crafts above 500 CFS. Hikers should only attempt to hike this section when the river is below 50 CFS. The hike has numerous river crossings. The side canyons along the hike offer endless miles of exploring.
