Brainard Lake Rec Area - Red Rock TH - CMC Trail 814.2
The CMC South Trail (USFS Trail 814.2) is 5 miles (8.0 kilometres) out and back with 300 feet of elevation gain. The trail starts at the Brainard Lake entry station, on Brainard Lake Road, and ends at Brainard Lake itself. Brainard Lake is situated within the Roosevelt National Forest and provides access to the Indian Peaks Wilderness area.

The Brainard Lake Recreation Area is set in a glacially carved valley with spectacular views of Brainard Lake, surrounding forest, and a number of high peaks along the Continental Divide.
