Newlin Creek

This is a 6 mile out and back trail in Florence, Colorado that follows a creek to an interesting old timber mill / homestead. The trail is well shaded and is quite rocky with about 2000 feet of elevation gain

This out-back trail has a little bit of everything with creek crossings, trees and some interesting history at the end. The trail follows what was -- a long time ago -- the wagon road to the old saw mill and homestead and the trail is generally easy to follow. Hikers can go beyond the mill if they wish to add about 3 total miles to the trip by climbing to the top of the canyon where there are good views of Canon City and Florence. The drive in can be quite rutted, so an SUV or truck is probably best (although passenger cars might be possible).
