Mount Guyot
13,370 ft summit near Breckenridge. The summit of Mount Guyot resides directly on the Continental Divide only ¾ mile west of the historic Georgia Pass. Named after Arnold (Henri) Guyot (1807-1874) a famous geologist from Switzerland.
Mount Guyot: 7 miles, 3,180-3,490 feet of elevation gain
Mount Guyot - Southeast Ridge: 4.2 miles, 2,500 feet of elevation gain
Moderate snow climb with exposed corniced summit ridge, best climbed April through mid June.
Getting There:
From Denver follow U.S. Route 285 to the town of Jefferson. Head north on County Road 35. At 2.9 miles, bear right on County Road 54. At 5.4 miles, County Road 54 turns left, signed to Georgia Pass. Proceed a total of 10 miles from Jefferson and find an appropriate location to park along the road.
Conditions:
Snow drifts may prevent you from reaching the designated starting point for the trip. In that case, your round trip total distance will increase accordingly. It is recommended that you bring along an ice axe and know how to self arrest for this climb as there is exposure to steep snow covered slopes on the route. Crampons may be indicated depending on firmness of snow. Skis may also be used if snow is continuous from parking area to summit ridge earlier in the season. There are at least two other routes that you can choose to summit Mt. Guyot during the Spring and Summer months.
