Metzler Family Open Space

There are 4 miles of multiple loop trails, enabling a larger loop hike totaling about 3.5 miles and 350 ft of elevation gain. The main Metzler Family Open Space Parking and Trailhead is 838 E. Allen Street in Castle Rock. The hike features gorgeous sweeping views, plentiful wildlife and beautiful wildflowers and vegetation

The Metzler family is credited as an original settler in the Castle Rock area, settling there in 1899.  The 109 acre historic homestead was used for ranching and dairy operations.  Since developing it as an Open Space, the Town of Castle Rock developed 4 miles of native-surface, single-track trails throughout the property.  The trails are open for hikers, mountain bikers and walkers with dogs on leash.

A parking lot and access driveway was constructed along the southwest portion of the property at 838 E. Allen Street to ensure public access, and additional parking labeled "Castle Rock Open Space" is available on the property's northwest side at 5460 Montana Vista.

Metzler Family Open Space is managed by the Town of Castle Rock
