Loud's Cabin
This is a popular hike destination, west of Colorado Springs. Loud's Cabin, also known as Chipmunk Lodge, is a historical monument on the southern slope of Mount Garfield. It was built in 1902 by Frank Herbert Loud, a Colorado College professor.
The trail begins at the Gold Camp parking lot in North Cheyenne Canyon. Follow Gold Camp Road (#370) to an intersection and through a metal gate to join the Seven Bridges Trail (#622) to the Seven Bridges North Spur Trail, and then the Loud's Cabin Trail (#622A). The cabin is 1/2 mile further up. A large chimney remains.
The trail is well defined. There is considerable loose gravel in spots, and some areas are prone to icy patches in the fall. Snowshoes required approx. December through March.
Make it a loop by returning via Captain Jack's/High Drive Trails.
