Little Baldy

A challenging hike off trail through trees and then later up the slope through felsenmeer ( often misnamed as talus) the trailhead begins at the Gold Dust Trail South off of FR 405 near Como, CO. This route is 8 miles and 2,400 ft elevation gain.

Covered in large, hard to traverse, felsenmeer ( rock broken in place by frost action) the challenge of this hike is route finding.  Recommend route is FS trail 614 to a saddle between Little Baldy and Silverheels. Heading off trail at this saddle is the direction up Little Baldy.  Best route is in found in Gary Roach's book "Colorado Thirteeners"  for the description up Silverheels using the Terryall Creek Trailhead ( now aka Gold Dust Trail South) .  Looking at the map he includes  the route up Little Baldy.  Other routes up Little Baldy are very difficult due to the felsenmeer and blow down of trees.
