Devil's Head
This prominent peak in the Rampart Range area of Douglas County is popular for climbing, hiking, and nearby camping. At the top is an historic structure, the last fire lookout tower in Colorado, now-closed but often open to the public from mid-May to mid-September. The top provides expansive views of Pikes Peak and other Rampart Range Hills.
The main hiker trail #611 leads up to the old Lookout, 2.7 miles, 869' gain.
The hike can be extended: At about elev 8990' up the trail, there is a .5 mile out and back spur called the Zinn Trail #615, which leads to to another, smaller but more easterly viewpoint. The gain to there is 114.'
The climbing routes are on the South and East-facing slopes of the mountain. The rock is fine-grain textured granite featured with roofs, cracks, edges, and flakes that offer excellent climbing opportunities. This area has 490 bolted routes and over 100 traditional routes. While more routes are advanced, some crags offer opportunities for new leaders and a few top rope options.
Access is via Rampart Range Road, which closes from December 1 to April 1 due to snowpack.
The surrounding Rampart Range area is used heavily by ATV's and mountain bikes.
