Davenport Campground Area-Squirrel Creek Trail

The Davenport Campground Area provides access to several miles of trails and trailheads within the San Isabel National Forest. The Squirrel Creek Trail and Second Mace trailheads are both found near the campground. These two trails provide eventual access to the Dome Rock, Coupler, Middle Creek, and South Creek trails on the western side of the Wet Mountains range.

The Squirrel Creek Trail parallels Squirrel Creek for 4.8 miles descending from the trailhead at the end of Forest Road 382, at Davenport Campground (8,500 feet) east of State Road 165 to Pueblo Mountain Park (6,500 feet) just west of Beulah. Additionally the Second Mace trailhead is located at the free parking area just before the campground.  There are various historical remains to be found in the region, especially along the Squirrel Creek trail that was the original Squirrel Creek Road built between 1920 and 1922.  The campground is closed seasonally, but the Davenport Road (382) from 165 becomes a great place to snowshoe and ski in the winter.  The road to the campground is about 1.5 miles with 444 ft descent.
