Coffintop Mountain
The hike to the summit of Coffintop Mountain (8,049 ft.) from the Button Rock Trailhead is 6.8 miles and gains roughly 2,200 ft. in elevation.
Route Description:
- Start your hike from the Button Rock Trailhead. The trailhead is located on the road that takes you to Ralph Price Reservoir.
- Follow the Ralph Price Reservoir road, which offers scenic views of the reservoir and surrounding mountains.
- After about 0.75 miles, you'll reach the junction with the Sleepy Lion Trail. Turn left onto this trail to begin your ascent towards Coffintop Mountain. The Sleepy Lion Trail gradually gains elevation as it winds through the forest. Enjoy the peaceful surroundings and keep an eye out for wildlife.
- After approximately a mile on the Sleepy Lion Trail, you'll reach the junction with the Button Rock Connector Trail. Continue straight for approximately 0.25 miles to an intersection ... Go right/south onto this trail towards Coffintop Mountain.
- The Button Rock Connector Trail leads you to the base of Coffintop Mountain. From there, you'll need to navigate off-trail to reach the summit. Be prepared for some steep and rugged terrain as you make your way to the top.
- Once you reach the summit of Coffintop Mountain, take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
