Clark Peak
Clark Peak A stands at 13,580 feet. Trailhead: Maroon-Snowmass. (0.2 miles past the East Snowmass TH). It is a 18.3 mile trail with an elevation gain of 5,600ft.
Clark Peak is a bicentennial peak. This description includes the option to camp prior to summit day. Drive 6 miles west of Aspen on Highway 82 and turn left onto Brush Creek Road. Continue on Brush Creek Road 5.5 miles and turn right onto Divide Road. Divide Road turns into a gravel road and passes the Krabloonik Restaurant and Kennels. The road descends steeply to the valley bottom where it forks. Take the left fork. A high clearance vehicle is recommended. Initially follow the Maroom/Snowmass Trail #1975 for 1.5 miles from TH, go rt at the 1st junction (avoid going lt to Snowmass Lake ). Approx. 6.38 miles from TH leave the trail at 10,000 ft and approx. 0.25 miles before the junction of the Nicholson Creek Trail and the West Snowmass Trail. A GPS track is very helpful. While the initial trail is well-established there is a significant creek crossing and the trail quality will degrade mile by mile. Significant deadfall may be encountered. Follow the West Snowmass Creek to an area which offers good campsites about 0.25 miles below Moon Lake. Clarke Peak A is 5.5 mile RT hike with 2442 ft of elevation gain from the camp site. Hike on the east and then southern edge of the lake on endless talus and boulders into the valley beneath Clarke A. Stay on the West side of the valley finally reaching the ridge which leads south east to the summit. The climb is Class 3 max. Class 4 to the gain the summit. Reverse the route to the Snowmass Creek TH or continue on to climb Mount Daly.
