4-Day: Parvin, Island, and Wall Lake from Trappers Outlet TH
This backpacking trip through the center of the Flat Tops Wilderness area is 21 miles in distance and approximately 3,600 vertical elevation gain. The loop starts at Trappers Lake and includes Parvin and Wall Lake with spur to Island Lake.

Day 1. Drive to the Trappers Outlet TH – approximately five hours from Denver. Hike south on the Outlet Trail (#1815.1) then make a left (south) on the Arthur H Carhart Trail (#1815) along the east side of Trappers Lake. Make a left (south) on the Trappers Lake Trail (#1816). Continue to follow the Trappers Lake Trail (#1816) to Parvin Lake and camp near the lake (4.7 miles/1228’).
Day 1 Route
Day 2. From Parvin Lake, continue south on the Trappers Lake Trail (#1816) then turn left (east) on the Island Lakes Trail (#1842) then right (south) on the Island Lakes Trail (#1842). Continue to follow the Island Lakes Trail (#1842) to Island Lake and camp near the lake (4.1 miles/1044’). You should get to the lake in the late morning/early afternoon and set up camp. Relax, fish, or explore one of the many options for day hikes in the area.
Day 2 Route
Day 3. From Island Lake, hike west on the Island Lakes Trail (#1842) then make a left turn (west) to return to the Trappers Lake Trail (#1816). Make a left (south) on the Trappers Lake Trail and then a right (west) on the Wall Lake Trail (#1818). Continue to follow the Wall Lake Trail (#1818) to Wall Lake and camp near the lake (6.9 miles/1200’).
Day 3 Route
Day 4. From Wall Lake, continue north on the Wall Lake Trail (#1818) then turn right (east) on the Arthur H Carhart Trail (#1815) and left (north) on the Outlet Trail (#1815.1) to return to the trail head (5.25 miles/143’).
