3-Day: Windsor Lake from Windsor Lake TH

This 1 mile and only 850 vertical feet trail accesses the beautiful Windsor Lake in the Mount Massive Wilderness. Optional hike around the lake on day 2. Abundant wildflowers in the season

Suggested Backpacking Section (BPX) itinerary for 3-day trip to be used for CMC trips led by BPX leaders for BPX members.

Day 1: Drive to TH near Leadville (approx. 2 hrs). Hike up to Windsor Lake, just over 1.0 mile but very steep! (850ft elevation). You will pass a lovely un-named lake and say “oh cool’ but when you arrive at Windsor Lake you will say “oh wow!”. The trail is well-marked and the views and setting are breathtaking. Camping is recommended along the east side of the lake. There are two streams flowing into the lake on that side for purifying water. Bushwhack up the hill from the second stream, and you'll find several great camp sites with views of the lake and surrounding mountains.

Route for Day 1

Day 2: Optional hike around Lake (will need to scramble in parts), other day hikes to explore the area, fishing, hang out at camp

Day 3: Break camp and descend one mile back to the TH

Driving Directions: From Leadville, follow signs to Turquoise Lake. From the southside of Turquoise Lake, drive on the bumpy, dirt road towards Hagerman Pass for 3.7miles from the paved road around the lake. Park on the right at the sign for Windsor Lake parking.
