4-Day: Mirror Lake and Meridian Peak via Surprise Lake TH

Explore this area of the Eagle's Nest Wilderness via the Surprise Lake Trail. Total elevation gain is 4,408 ft. and 24 miles round trip.

Suggested Backpacking Section (BPX) itinerary for 4-day trip to be used for CMC trips led by BPX leaders for BPX members.

Day 1: From the Surprise Lake trail head hike up to  Surprise Lake 2.8 miles and 1,585 ft elevation gain. Set up camp.

Route Day 1

Day 2: Break camp and hike to Mirror Lake. This is 3.6 miles and 1,081 ft. elev. gain  Set up camp. Spend the day resting or explore around.

Route Day 2

Day 3: Light pack (day hike) to Meridian Peak - 8.6 miles RT and 1,742 elev. gain and loss.

Route Day 3

Day 4 : Return to cars. Loss of 2,148 ft and  7 miles.

Mirror Lake via Surprise lake  R & P: Driving Directions: From I-70 take Exit 205, Silverthorne/Dillon, and travel north on HWY 9.  Take Hwy 9 north for about 20-22 miles.  Before the Green Mountain Reservoir turn left onto Heeney Road (County Rd 30). Turn left on Forest Road 1725 which is  Cataract Creek Rd.   Go  past the  Cataract Creek Campground and you'll find the the Surprise Lake trail head. Park here.
