3-Day: Mueller State Park Campgrounds

Only 33 miles from Colorado Springs, Mueller has both walk-in and drive-in campsites with settings of spruce, fir and aspen. Many sites have great views of Pikes Peak. Three well appointed lodges are also available year-round. Mueller is #23 in Gil Folsom's "Colorado Campgrounds The 100 Best and All the Rest".

With 85 miles of trails, stocked pond fishing, wild life viewing and tent only campgrounds, Mueller State Park is an easy choice for your adventures year round.  Mueller State Park is adjacent to Dome Rock State Wildlife Area.  

There are 136 sites among 7 campgrounds of which Prospector Ridge and Turkey Meadow campgrounds are walk-in only tent campsites allowing two tents per site.  All walk-in sites provide bear vault storage.  There is one group camping loop available.

Amenities: picnic tables, fire grates; toilets and water faucets are centrally located.  Laundry and coin operated  shower facilities available in addition to playgrounds, an amphitheater for ranger-led talks and a livery.

NO PETS ON TRAILS IN THE PARK

RV/Tents:  Most RV sites also have tent pads.  Tent only sites available at Prospector Ridge and Turkey Meadow.  One vehicle per site.

Suggested Backpacking Section (BPX) itinerary for 3-day trip to be used for CMC trips led by BPX leaders for BPX members.

Day 1 - Drive to Divide, off Hwy 24, prior to Hwy 67 and take the Wolf Sanctuary Tour; reservations required with only certain hours and days available; go to Mueller State Park check in and set up camp

Day 2 - Dome Rock State Wildlife Area, Dome Rock Trail, 11.2 mile, Loop, 1788' gain.  Note NO DOGS ALLOWED ON TRAIL.  Portions of Dome Rock SWA area closed from December 1 - July 15 for lambing season.  Specific hunting or fishing permit plus  habitat stamp  needed to enter Colorado State Wildlife Area.  There are no bridges on this trail so look for and expect stream crossings in season.

Day 3 - Break camp; hike Raven Ridge, Red Tail and Lone Eagle Overlook via Outlook Ridge, Loop, 4.3 miles, 800' gain.  Return to meeting location.

Directions: From Golden take C470 to Hwy 285, turn left at Pine Junction, take Pine Valley Road to Deckers Road, then 67 to Woodland Park, Hwy 24 to Divide and Hwy 67 to Mueller SP on right hand side of Hwy 67
