3-Day: Marvine and Twin Lakes from Marvine TH
This nice loop goes to a number of scenic lakes in the Flattops Wilderness. Experience the wide open beauty of the Flattops and possibly climb Big Marvine Peak for a grand view of the wilderness area. Fishing in the lakes is an option. Total loop is 22.4 miles and 3,700 vertical feet.
Suggested Backpacking Section (BPX) itinerary for 3-day trip to be used for CMC trips led by BPX leaders for BPX members:
Day 1. Hike on the Marvine Trail (#1823) and establish a camp at the Marvine Lakes. (6.1 miles, 1400’)
Day 2. Continue hiking to intersection with Oyster Lake Trail (#1825) and head NE to Twin Lakes. Camp in forested area south of the lake. (6.1 miles, 1,900’)
Day 3. Descend on East Marvine Trail to trailhead. (10.2 miles, 300').
Alternate: Add one day and do a four mile day hike to climb Big Marvine Peak or relax in camp.
Driving Directions: Drive 230 miles on I-70 and CO 13 to Meeker. (I-70 to Rifle and 42 miles north on CO 13 to Meeker.) To reach East Marvine Trail from Meeker, travel east along CO 13 for 1 mile and turn east onto CR 8. Continue along CR 8 for 28 miles and turn south at Fritzlans Guest Ranch, cross the bridge and turn east onto Marvine Creek Road (CR 12). Travel 6 miles along CR 12 to Marvine Trailhead parking area.
