BPX 3-day: Charles and Mystic Lakes from Fulford/Lake Charles TH
Hike to two delightful lakes in the Holy Cross Wilderness in White River National Forest. Enjoy great scenery and excellent fishing. Visit Mystic Lake located in a glacial cirque. Totals for this 3-day Out and Back are 8 miles and 1800 ft elevation gain.
Suggested Backpacking Section (BPX) itinerary for 3-day trip to be used for CMC trips led by BPX leaders for BPX members:
Day 1. Hike on the Charles Lake Trail (#1899) to Charles Lake and establish camp near Lake Charles. (4 miles/1,800’)
Day 2. Hike to Mystic Lake (.75 miles), fish in either lake, or relax in camp.
Day 3. Return to the trailhead (4 miles/-1800’).
Driving Directions: From I-70 exit 147 for Eagle, CO turn south on Eby Creek Rd to the Route 6 roundabout. At the roundabout, turn right (west) on Route 6/Grand Ave and travel 0.8 miles to next roundabout. At this roundabout, take the third right onto Sylvan Lake Road. Continue 1.6 miles to Brush Creek Road, and take a right on Brush Creek Road. Follow Brush Creek Road for roughly 9 miles to the fork of East and West Brush Creek.Turn left onto East Brush Creek Road (FDR 415) and drive 6 miles until you reach the parking lot and trailhead information board. The trailhead is to the right of the board starting at the gate, stay to the left at the “Y.”
