3-Day: Abyss Lake Trail from Burning Bear TH
Abyss Lake is nestled in a high glacial cirque between Mt. Bierstadt and Mt. Evans. We’ll set up camp along Abyss Lake trail, approximately 4 miles and 1,400 vertical feet from TH, and then day hike up to Abyss Lake the following day.
Suggested Backpacking Section (BPX) itinerary for 3-day trip to be used for CMC trips led by BPX leaders for BPX members:
Day 1 - Drive to trailhead, Hike in 4 miles, then set up camp. 4 miles, 1,400 feet gain
Day 2 – Hike to Abyss Lake and/or explore Rosalie trail with light pack. Return to camp for the second night. 8.2 miles 2,077 feet gain round trip.
Day 3 - Break camp, hike out, and drive home. 4 miles 150 feet gain 1,400 feet loss
Driving Directions: 49 miles on 285 to Geneva Road/Guanella Pass. Turn right on Geneva Road/Guanella Pass 5.2 miles to Abyss Trailhead parking lot
