2-Day: Lamphier Lake from Gold Creek TH

Hike to a beautiful lake in Fossil Ridge wilderness with good fishing surrounded by several high peaks. Includes an option to climb to nearby Gunsight Pass and possibly beyond. This moderate out-and-back trip is only 5 miles and 1,700 vertical feet of elevation.

Suggested Backpacking Section (BPX) itinerary for 2-day trip to be used for CMC trips led by BPX leaders for BPX members:

Day 1. Starting at Gold Creek Trailhead hike on the South Lottis Trail, #428.1 to Lamphier Lake and establish camp. (2.5 miles/+1700’). Two campsites at lower lake; one to left of trail and one to right going over marshy creek.  Upper lake has campsites on far side of lake.  Optional hike to Gunsight Pass is a bit of a scramble and is not recommended for inexperienced hikers, as you must hike down on steep narrow trail with exposure.

Route Day 1 & 2

Day 2. Return to trailhead (2.5  miles/-1700’).

Driving Directions: From Gunnison, travel east on Highway 50 for approximately 11.5 miles to Parlin, CO.  Turn left and travel approximately 8 miles on County Road 76 to Ohio City.  Turn left on FSR #771 and continue for approximately 7 miles to the Gold Creek Campground.  Parking is on the left across from the campground.
