2-Day: Lake Constantine from Halfmoon TH
Trip to beautiful Lake Constantine with good fishing a waterfall and upper lakes to explore in the Holy Cross Wilderness Area. This out-and-back trip is only 8 miles and 1,500 vertical feet of elevation gain total.
Suggested Backpacking Section (BPX) itinerary for 2-day trip to be used for CMC trips led by BPX leaders for BPX members::
Day 1 – From Halfmoon TH hike in 3.8 miles on Fall Creek Trail, FT2001, to Lake Constantine. Set up camp then fish or explore Lake Constantine, waterfall, and/or Tuhare Lakes (3.8 miles/1,362 ft gain). Plenty of camping spaces around the lake.
Day 2 – Break camp and hike out to starting TH.
Alternate is to add day at Lake Constantine for additional exploration.
Driving Directions: I-70 West to Exit 171; 5.0 miles southeast on US 24 past Minturn to Notch Mountain Road; 3.9 miles southwest on Notch Mountain Road – rough dirt, but passenger car driven carefully is fine; West 0.1 miles to parking on the road. Trailhead access is not a problem and plenty of parking spaces at trailhead but could fill on busy weekends.
