BPX 2-Day: American Lakes from American Lakes TH

Hike to the scenic American Lakes (Michigan Lake), with views of the Diamond Peaks to the north, as well as Iron Mountain, Thunder Mountain, Lulu Mountain, Mount Richthofen, Static Peak, and the Nokhu Crags.

Side trips in the area include Thunder Pass which is on the border with the Rocky Mountain National Park and Snow Lake.

Suggested Backpacking Section (BPX) itinerary for 2-day trip to be used for CMC trips led by BPX leaders for BPX members.

Day 1: Drive to American Lakes TH. Hike along the American Lakes Trail to American Lakes and find camping (3.7 miles, +1,500 / -60 ft.). Option day hike to Snow Lake, Thunder Pass, and/or Lulu Mountain.

Route Day 1

Optional Day Hike: Snow Lake (0.75 miles, +-300 ft.)

Optional Day Hike: Thunder Pass (1.8 miles, +-250 ft.)

Optional Day Hike: Lulu Mountain (2.8 miles, +-1,096 ft.)

Day 2: Optional day hike to Snow Lake, Thunder Pass, and/or Lulu Mountain. Hike back to the trailhead (3.7 miles, +60 / -1,590 ft.) and drive home.

Route Day 2

Overall Route: 7.4 miles, +- 1,590 ft.
