Black Mesa, OK and Capulin Volcano, NM
Camping and hiking in the SE corner of Colorado. Black Mesa is 4,973 ft high and the highest point in Oklahoma. Capulin Volcano is a National Monument and 8,182 ft high.
Suggested Itinerary:
Camp two nights at Black Mesa State Park in Oklahoma. Some trails to walk the first day. On the second day, drive north to Black Mesa Nature Preserve and hike up to the Mesa, then back to camp. On the third day, drive west to New Mexico and explore the volcano, including hiking down into the crater. From there, drive west to Raton and then north on I 25. All the hikes are easy As and Bs.
