Badger Mountain
Badger Mountain area has numerous rock climbing crags; which have various types of climbing (i.e. sport/mixed/trad and single/multipitch) and levels (5.6 to 5.11). Most climbs in the area are at least 20 years old, and the crags sit at elevations or 9,200' or higher.
Mostly known for Rock Climbing; Badger Mountain has numerous crags with easy approaches. Camping can be found around the crags, however, it is highly recommended to review usda.gov notices for closures/restrictions.
Per Mountainproject.com, "The rock consists of Pikes Peak Granite and pegmatite of variable quality, similar to other South Platte rock. However, most of the rock is good quality and some is excellent. It varies from smooth and fine grained to covered with chickenheads."
Crags: Spruce it Up, Badger Flats area (Feral Petunia and Valley of the Chickens), West Badger Mountain (Ussen, West La Salle).
Climbing season is usually summer/fall; but can be climbed in winter/spring depending on weather and southfacing crags for sun.
NOTE: Raptor Nesting Closure for West La Salle crags (i.e. Duck Rock): The closure is Jan. 1 - July 31 annually from 2021 - 2026, per Forest Service Order 2021-04. Pike-San Isabel National Forests & Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands - Alerts & Notices (usda.gov)
