We will meet at the northwest corner of the Fort Collins Northside King Soopers parking lot (1842 N. College Ave). We will meet between 8:00 AM and 8:20 AM, leaving at 8:30. From there we will carpool to the Greyrock Trailhead, meeting the forest service at 9:00 AM at the trailhead.
Donuts will be provided at King Soopers!
We've all seen the sign on the Greyrock trail proclaiming that the CMC maintains the trail in a partnership with the USFS, but that partnership has been threatened in recent years by difficulty gathering enough support for maintenance from members. We are hoping to reinvigorate that partnership, but we need your help to do so.
If you are NOT a CMC member, you can still help. You will need to create a guest account first and then register on this event page. Trust me, this is a painless process. The guest account option is a button at the bottom of this page: https://www.cmc.org/members-volunteers/join-cmc
The forest service may join us .... stay tuned. In any case we use their tools and expertise gained on the previous maintenance day as well as other poudre canyon maintenance activities for this particular day. We will still be mostly focusing on brush clearing which is a relatively easy introduction to trail maintenance principles so you need not be a lumberjack to participate. Forest service has expressed an interest in growing the partnership to include more interesting (and potentially more strenuous!) trail maintenance days in the future.
Except to carry your pack, a 3lb tool, and your water for about six miles and up to 1000 feet depending on how far down the trail we go. Once we get to a likely area we will stop frequently along the trail to clear brush.
Required Equipment
A backpack including the ten essentials, water and some food. Also as we all know early October could be hot, or it could be cool. Appropriate clothing for working outside and protection from the sun. Sturdy work gloves, protective eyewear (sunglasses are okay), long sleeves and long pants along with sturdy boots (hiking boots work). Gaitors or the ability to tuck pants into high socks to avoid any potential for critters climbing out of the brush and up your pant leg. On the note of critters, insect repellent may not be a bad idea.
Hard hats and tools for various body sizes will be provided by the Forest Service.
