Scramble – Torrey's Peak via Kelso Ridge (Northeast Ridge)

Torreys Peak via Kelso Ridge Class 3 Scramble

  • Sat, Jul 29, 2023
  • Pikes Peak
  • Scrambling
  • Basic Alpine Climb
  • Adults
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 6.75 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 3,100 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 14,272 ft
  • Pace: 2.0

Alpine start that might be adjusted based on weather forecast.  Plan is to start hiking from Grays Peak trailhead at 4:45a. The trailhead parking lot fills up early, so recommend camping at Grays Peak Trailhead the night before (28 July) or getting there very early.  If you have to return to the winter trailhead, it's a 3 mile drive back down and hike back to our start point.

More info on the drive to the trailhead:  https://www.14ers.com/php14ers/trailheadsview.php?thparm=fr04

Registration priority goes to recent graduates of the PPG Alpine Scrambling class.  All others will be waitlisted until 25 Jul.

Required:  Scrambling badge or equivalent experience.  Contact trip leader if you do not have the scrambling badge to verify eligibility.

This is a Class 3 route with high risk for rock fall and exposure. Commitment is considerable (once we start the ridge there are few options to bail out).

We will descend via the standard route. Should be back at the trailhead by 1p.
