This is an introduction to scrambling so we will keep to easier terrain but a helmet is required for safety due to potential for falling rocks. We will hike to the base of Horsetooth mountain and scramble to the summit of the South Tooth. This goes at about class 2 in difficulty but depending on the ability of the group and time we may choose more difficult lines requiring some use of hands which would put this in the 2+ range. Depending on time and energy, we will also tag the North Tooth (also class 2+) and return to make a loop to make things interesting.
We will meet in the east end of the parking lot of JJ's (NW corner of Taft Hill Rd. and 38E) at 4:45 PM and carpool to Horsetooth Mountain Space trailhead from there. I have a Larimer County parking tag but we will need tags from others driving as well.
Required Equipment
A climbing helmet is required! A headlamp is required with backup or extra batteries! You will not be allowed to participate without these items. Comfortable footwear with some grip, mountaineering boots, trail runners, or approach shoes. Hiking boots are not ideal not allowing enough feel for rock.
