RMOTHG Trip – Orbital Trail - Segment 18
For Rocky Mountain Over the Hill Gang members ONLY. We will hike Segment 18 of the Denver Orbital Trail (DOT) through the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge. We will be hiking from west to east. Suzanne Dysard will be leading this hike from east to west on the same day. We will meet in the middle and may stop for a snack/lunch break together

The DOT is a walking route that makes a full circle around Denver. We are starting about 2 miles into Segment 18 as there is a better parking lot here. Never fear – if you hike with either group on Segment 17 you will do the 2 miles that we are skipping this time! Here are the links to the map of Segment 18 on Alltrails We will be hiking on the Legacy Trail to the Lake Mary Loop and then the Rocky Mountain Greenway Trail. This segment is a mix of paved path and trail. There are bathrooms at the Visitors Center and in between the lakes.
This route is exploratory for the trip leaders.
If anyone would like to carpool to the start please let me know in the Registration Note and I will try to arrange this.
As most of us will be driving one way or another there will be no car pool share between trail heads.
We will meet at 9:00am at the First Creek at DEN Open Space parking lot, 5600-5898 Buckley Road, Denver, CO 80239 (Here is a Google Map Link) then car pool to our starting point at Rocky Mountain Arsenal Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center parking lot, 6550 Gateway Road, Commerce City, CO 80222 (Here is a Google Map Link)
Required Equipment
Dress appropriately for the weather, including sunscreen and a hat, plus wind clothes. Bring a snack/lunch and plenty of water. It’s always a good idea to carry microspikes this time of year.
