RMOTHG Trip – North Table Mountain
Starting from the West trailhead, this clockwise hike around North Table Mountain begins with a scenic ascent along the North Table Loop, following the base of the mountain with views of the surrounding foothills. As you head north, the trail gently climbs before joining the Mesa Top Trail, leading to panoramic vistas of Golden, the Front Range, and the plains beyond. The loop continues around the mesa’s flat top, allowing for a breezy descent back to the trailhead, completing a rewarding circuit of North Table Mountain’s diverse terrain.

We embark from the West trailhead, this clockwise journey around North Table Mountain unveils a landscape rich with drama and beauty. Following the North Table Loop, our path meanders northward, weaving past foothills with sweeping views of Golden’s golden plains, before a gradual ascent on the Mesa Top Trail. Here, a highland plateau opens, and each step brings a new, stunning perspective. Diverting onto the Rim Rock Trail, the path skirts sandstone edges where vistas stretch endlessly under Colorado’s wide sky. Descending along the Cottonwood Canyon Trail, the cool shade offers respite, leading back to a connection with the North Table Loop. Rising once more to the Mesa Top, the summit of Lichen Peak beckons—a brief but worthy detour rewarding hikers with commanding views. The final stretch descends smoothly, winding back to the trailhead, closing a loop brimming with nature’s variety and grandeur. We’ll find a comfortable spot for lunch/snack. Our pace will be comfortable for all group members. Overall, this hike is ~8.5 miles and ~1300 ft elevation gain. (North Table Mtn - Loop 3 - CalTopo)
