RMOTHG Trip – Boulder Open Space - Fowler Trail

Starting at the Fowler Trailhead in the Boulder OS, this adventure hike follows the gentle Fowler Trail before connecting to the Goshawk Ridge Trail, which climbs gradually through ponderosa pine forest and open meadows. From the top of Goshawk Ridge, we’ll take an off-trail route along the ridge itself, with some rock hopping, offering sweeping views and a more rugged, adventurous experience. If we want some more time together, there are plenty of options to explore additional open space areas nearby.

This adventure hike kicks off at the Fowler Trailhead in Boulder Open Space, where we’ll ease into the day with a mellow start along the Fowler Trail before linking up with the scenic Goshawk Ridge Trail. The true adventure begins when we veer off-trail to follow the ridge itself, weaving through patches of forest, rock hopping, and enjoying a bit of easy scrambling along the way. Marvelous views open up as we gain elevation—glimpses of the Flatirons, distant peaks, and the peaceful sweep of open space below. If the group’s feeling energized, there are plenty of opportunities to explore further, adding extra loops or simply wandering through the landscape before making our miraculous return to the trailhead. We'll find a sunny spot for lunch/snack. Our pace will accommodate all participants. Overall ~3-5 miles and ~700-1000 ft elevation gain. (Goshawk Ridge - CalTopo)
