Meeting place in FC TBD. YOU MUST EMAIL THE TRIP LEADER TO REGISTER FOR THIS TRIP. You SHOULD contact the trip leader before registration opens. This is a "Practice" trip for members getting into cross country skiing, experienced skiers are welcome, but in order to give less experienced folks a shot, I will be holding off on putting experience members on roster until December 16th (that is why I am opening registration on the 16th). NOTE the trailhead is about 2 hours northwest of Fort Collins
On the trip we will be doing the "groomed" Gould Loop starting at the Moose Visitors Center. This trip is for people that would like to get into cross country skiing. Since it is a one-day trip not a multi-day class, participants should at least be comfortable getting on skis (even if your experience has been downhill skiing ….. at least you will be used to having “boards on your feet). The trip leaders are experienced and will provide some guidance and instruction on gliding, snowplowing downhill, going uphill (sidestep and herringbone), and off trail travel in a group. We will stay on-trail, but will offer a couple of very easy off trail runs for more confident skiers. The group will also what type of ski you might want to purchase in the future.
Note you will need to bring ski, ski boots and poles with snow baskets (hiking poles with snow baskets are fine). At JAX in Fort Collins you can rent cross country equipment at $20 for 24 hours (you will need to pick them up the day before the trip). Note they have 68mm and 78 mm cross country skis. IF you think you might like to try the very short powder runs off trail you will want to get the 78 mm skis.
NOTE this trip is NOT the Nordic Backcountry/Backcountry Course.
Contact either of the trip leaders if you would like to discuss ski rental or what type of ski you might want to purchase in the future.
Required Equipment
Cross Country or Backcountry Nordic Skis, boots and poles.
