This is a climb of the classic Skywalker Couloir, which gets you to the top of South Arapaho peak in the Indian Peaks Wilderness. This couloir is considered "Very Steep" in Dave Cooper's book linked below.. it's 60-something degrees near the top, so think lots of exposure. You will need two ice tools/axes to do it.
We have the option of continuing on to North Arapaho via a class 3/4 traverse if we're feeling it.
Our route:
https://caltopo.com/m/TF17Q
- With the traverse, it's a total of 3300' uphill and about 12 miles RT.
- Just S. Arapaho alone is about 2600' uphill and about 8 miles RT
This hike is open to grads of Alpine Climbing School or folks who have proven their mettle on similar trips.
As always, this hike is highly dependent on weather, snow conditions etc etc
