Intermediate Snowshoe – Brainard Lake Rec Area - Winter Gateway
This RMOTHG Training Hike offers the chance to get out and enjoy snwoshoeing in the backcoutnry in preparation for the Francie's Hut Trip. The group will choose one of three exciting snowshoe routes in the Brainard Lake Recreation Area. The options are: CMC Snowshoe Trail Loop, South Saint Vrain Loop, or the Left Hand Reservoir Loop. Each route offers a unique experience, allowing the group to choose the trail that best suits their current skill level and desired adventure. This hike is for RMOTHG members only.

This exhilarating RMOTHG snowshoe hike presents the group to immerse themselves in the thrilling world of snowshoeing while testing and strengthening their snowshoe skills and endurance. The group will be spoiled for choice with three captivating snowshoe routes, each offering a unique adventure amidst the serene beauty of the Brainard Lake Recreation Area. First, the CMC Snowshoe Trail Loop beckons with its perfect balance of challenge and accessibility—ideal for those eager to fine-tune their technique in a safe, yet stunning, environment. For those seeking a bit more adventure, the South Saint Vrain Loop unveils a breathtaking landscape, winding through diverse terrain and rewarding adventurers with panoramic vistas as they forge their way through the snowy wilderness. And for those craving a more tranquil journey, the Left Hand Reservoir Loop promises an idyllic, peaceful retreat—an ideal way to soak in the stillness of the winter landscape at a more relaxed pace. Whatever path the group chooses, this trip will deliver an unforgettable snowshoeing experience that will leave one brimming with confidence and excitement! We'll find a comfortable sunny spot for snack/lunch. Our route will keep us out of avalanche risk areas. Our pace will accommodate all participants. Carpool Place & Time: Meet at US 36 & McCaslin Blvd PnR-South 7:00AM for a 7:15AM departure (US 36 and McCaslin Blvd Park and Ride - South - Google Maps)
We'll then carpool to the Brainard Lake Recreation Area winter parking lot (Brainard Lake Winter Lot - Google Maps). Please note there is a $10/car parking fee or a NPS pass.

Ten essentials and snowshoes re required. Trekking poles are recommended.
