Hiking – Staunton State Park

RMOTHG Staunton Bear Paws Loop -- We'll be hiking the route counterclockwise and, tentatively, enjoying lunch with spectacular views from Eagle Cliffs Overlook. This hike is for RMOTHG members only.

  • Mileage: 8.5 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 1,400 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 9,500 ft
  • Pace: Casual Plus

8:15am -- Meet at The Fort, 19192 CO-8, Morrison, 80465 to organize carpools and depart for Staunton no later than 8:30am.

Pace is casual plus.  We won't be setting any speed records, but we will plan to move at a steady pace with minimal breaks.  We will take some time to savor the views and enjoy lunch on the three main overlooks at the top of the trail.

Depending on trail conditions and the pace of the group, this hike may take up to six hours.  Our goal will be to complete the hike and return to The Fort no later than sunset but, most likely, we'll complete the trip a bit earlier.  Do, however, plan for the possibility that this will be an all-day outing.

Bring spikes, gaiters, lunch, snacks, extra water, and appropriate layers for a variety of weather conditions.  As of today (12/23), the weather forecast is sunny with a high of 38 degrees.  Temperatures could, however, be as cold as the teens when we get started in the morning, so prepare accordingly.

Keep an eye out for a pre-trip email with additional details on Wednesday 12/27.
