Hiking – Staunton State Park

Doggie Hike: All are welcome, with or without a dog. This relatively short hike (3 miles) will take us up Mason Creek Trail past the cascades, and then return back on Mason Creek until intersecting with the Dines Meadow Trail. The trail is very shady and runs along the creek most of the way.

  • Easy to Moderate
  • Easy
  • Mileage: 3.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 500 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 8,800 ft
  • Pace: doggie casual (about 1.8 mph)

We will meet 8:50 at the Mason Creek Trailhead parking lot in Staunton State Park and start hiking at 9:00. After you enter the park, take the first right and follow the road back until you see the parking lot on the right. There is a vault toilet at the parking lot. We will start hiking at 9:00.

NOTE: There is a fee to enter the park if you do not yet have a state park pass. I have been told that if you have re-registered your car this year, and elected to get the pass at that time, the rangers will know this by your license plate, and a physical pass (or window sticker) is no longer necessary.

This is a short hike to stretch your legs and enjoy an almost "Oregon-like” area of the park. Mason Creek trail is a relatively easy trail along a beautiful creek, with cascades. We will take it slow on the uphill. Please be aware that it is very shady along this trail, and usually 10-15 degrees cooler than the more exposed, sunny trails on the west side of the park.

On the way back down, we will intersect with the Dines Meadow Trail, and take it back to the parking lot.
