Hiking – Staunton State Park

A moderately challenging route for RMOTHG, this is a 5 mile out-and-back hike (or snowshoe), with approximately 900 ft of elevation gain. Destination: The Red Wall and Never Winter Wall via Staunton Ranch Trail. Stunning and beautiful views reward hikers on this route. Average time: 3 hours.

Meeting Time for Carpool:   9 am

Meeting Place:   470 & Morrison Rd (CO 8):    3485 S. Rooney Rd, Morrison, CO

From the Morrison Rd exit of 470 (5A) go west towards Morrison. Take immediate right on South Rooney Rd. Dirt Parking Lot is directly on your right across from the gas station/convenience store.  From here it is a 22 mile and approximately 30 minute drive going West/South on 285 to Staunton State Park.

  • Weather Report & Trail Conditions:  Leader will email participants the day before the hike with up-to-date info.

  • Please let me know if you have any medical issues / conditions / devices / medications that could affect your participation on this hike (e.g. blood thinners, asthma/inhalers, allergies, heart conditions). This info will be important to the leader and any other medical personnel to be able to best help you in the event of an emergency.

  • Personal Info Card: https://cmcdenver.org/wp-content/uploads/Personal-Information-Form-7-6-16.pdf Please remember to bring this info to keep in your 1st Aid Kit or in an easily accessible pocket on your backpack. In the event of an emergency this information will be very important.

  • Please bring some sort of trash bag to either put muddy/snowy boots in or to place on the floor of the driver's vehicle to help keep their vehicle clean.

  • Carpool Driver Donation: Let's remember that we are reimbursing the drivers for the gas expense, wear & tear on their vehicles, and especially getting chauffered to our hike:) Please split $14 among the passengers in your carpool. ( 44 miles total X .32 = $14)

  • The CMC trip - and liability coverage - officially starts at trailhead, not at carpool meeting location.

  • Microspikes Required.
  • Poles are recommended for balance and helping to prevent falls – especially when descending icy sections. Use of snowshoes tbd.
