We will meet at Wooly Mammoth Park and Ride, section EE (not BB) at 6:00am for a PROMPT departure of 6:15am.  Here’s a Google Maps link to Wooly Mammoth: https://goo.gl/maps/XSeTnxeQnvDzLMWz7

We will start our hike at the Buffalo Mountain trailhead, in Silverthorne.  To get there, we take I-70 to exit 205 (Silverthorne/Dillon) and travel north on Hwy 9 to the first traffic light.  Turn left on Wildernest Road, staying left.  In 3.6 miles, Wildernest Road becomes Ryan Gulch Road, passing many condos.  We arrive at the large trailhead parking and take the Buffalo Cabin Trailhead.  Here is a Google Maps link to the trailhead:   https://goo.gl/maps/BmUziUSVZAo6pmLL6    The plan is to start our hike at about 7:45am

Red Peak is located in the Gore Wilderness near Silverthorne.  Begin this hike at the Buffalo Mountain Trailhead off Ryan Gulch Rd. near Silverthorne. Stay on the Buffalo Cabin trail which will to South Willow Creek and the Gore Range trail.  As you approach the Gore Range trail a few small stream crossings need to be navigated. The trail can be a little difficult to follow in this area. Hike west on the Gore Range trail until you see Red Buffalo Pass, leave the trail and hike west to the pass before hiking north along the ridge line to the summit of Red Peak.

Red Peak, is a very large peak, and has two distinct summits. The west summit is the true summit and can be attained by a steep class 2+ hike up the south ridge.
