The DOT is a walking route that makes a full 177-mile circle around Metro Denver. AFTER MEETING AT AND DROPPING SHUTTLE CARS AT Schweiger Ranch, 10822 South Havana St., Lone Tree, CO 80134, we will then immediately shuttle to and start our hike at the east end of the Segment 11, at the CCC Park & Reservoir parking lot, 18962 S Twenty Mile Rd, Parker, CO 80134. https://maps.app.goo.gl/Jj3CtbJ2X6T9h15y5
This Segment is described as “A segment that truly makes you feel like you're in the middle of nowhere!” We will start on a short segment of the Sulpher Gulch Trail to reach the Cherry Creek Trail, then soon thereafter join up with the East-West Regional Trail. See the map and gpx at All Trails but note that our group will be following the route shown at AllTrails IN REVERSE! https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/colorado/dot-segment-11-east-west-regional-trail-to-cherry-creek-trail?u=i&sh=bhqvqk
We will end back up at Schweiger Ranch. Drivers with cars there will shuttle the others back to their cars at CCC Park and Reservoir.
There are toilets at the beginning of the segment, by the parking lot at Bar CCC park. There's a porta-potty just off-segment, by Prairie Crossing Elementary School, at 5.3 miles. There's a water fountain in the park at 5.3 miles, too. There’s a porta-potty in the Schweiger Ranch parking lot.
This route is exploratory for the trip leaders. We will write a day or before trip day to review the weather and any logistical adjustments.
Dress appropriately for the weather, including sunscreen and a hat, wind clothes and bring a lunch. Expect a very cold start.
